Microsoft Rises on Sam Altman News

Shares of Microsoft rose more than 1% in the premarket after CEO Satya Nadella said Sam Altman, the ousted OpenAI chief, will lead a team within the tech giant to research artificial intelligence.

“We look forward to taking action quickly and providing them with the tools needed for their success,” Nadella said in a post on social media platform X. “We remain committed to our partnership with OpenAI and are confident in our product roadmap, our ability to continue to innovate with everything we announced at Microsoft Ignite, and to continue to support our customers and partners.”

European shares start the week mixed

European shares were mixed early on Monday, with the Stoxx 600 down 0.09% at 8:33 a.m. in London.

Britain’s FTSE 100 and Germany’s DAX were down 0.3% and 0.2% respectively, while France’s CAC 40 was 0.2% higher.

Retail stocks rose 0.75%, in a week when strong sales are expected as consumers increase sales on Black Friday.

China keeps interest rates on one- and five-year loans unchanged for November

China’s central bank has maintained interest rates for one- and five-year loans at 3.45% and 4.2% for November.

This is the third month in a row that the People’ Bank of China has held the one-year LPR, after cutting it from 3.55% to 3.45% in August.

The five-year LPR, meanwhile, has been held at 4.2% for five consecutive months, having last been cut from 4.3% in June.

Stock futures open little changed

Stock futures opened largely flat on Sunday, with all major averages heading into a shortened trading week after their third straight winning performance.

Dow and S&P 500 futures were essentially flat, while Nasdaq futures fell 0.1%, or 19 points.
